Chairmans Report - Season 2007-2008

To date we have seen alot of changes, we have joined with Kev Offlir at Offscreen Printers in Blidworth who has become our Shirt Sponsor. Kev and his young son Tom have also become supporters which has helped us build our relationship.Kev has helped us out in other areas such as printing programmes for the Paul Voller memorial game and sponsoring a brand new advertising board which is sited at the entrance into the Welfare. Our Youth Development Officer, Phil Selby, has worked tirelessly to kick start four new Junior sides at under 8,9,10, and 11 age groups. It makes me feel really proud to turn up at the Welfare on a Saturday morning and see all of the youngsters and their respective families watching football being played at Blidworth. Phil has also started another under 9 team who play in the kick start league on Sundays. Phil is now working on getting some girls teams started for next season. We now have a mens Sunday side playing under the banner of Blidworth Welfare. This is a team that was set up initially by Paul Voller and they used to be called Larch Farm until they transferred to Blidworth at the start of this season. Paul was instrumental in starting this team and we all suffered and felt a huge loss and gap in our lives when Paul lost his life earlier on this year. We have been successful in obtaining funding from the CHAD Challenge Fund to obtain a grant of £250 towards our new goalposts for the Juniors and Helen Willford is making good progress in our plans to have a new changing facility in place within the next couple of years. This will be used by all of the sporting sections at Blidworth. Our new fencing is now being erected and we can already see the benefits this is having particularly on the appearace of our ground. Finally I would like to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors who give up their free time and donate money to enable us to enjoy and develop Blidworth Welfare Football Club.

News - 20/12/07

Congratulations to First Team Manager Dave Hughes on achieving the UEFA B Coaching badge qualification. This has taken Dave alot of time and hard work to achieve and will further strengthen our coaching skills at the football club. Dave joins Michael Wain and Phil Selby at the club who have already qualified.

Blidworth Welfare's application to the Chad Challenge Fund for an award of £250 has been successful. This money will contribute towards the purchase of a new set of goalposts to be used on the pitch where the over 11's and Sunday side play. These had to be purchased to ensure our goalposts met the Football Foundations goalpost safety criteria. The Football Foundation have already contributed £417 towards the total costs.

Blidworth Welfare come up against a former player this weekend when they travel to Parkhouse. Defender Dale Crowder joined Parkhouse in the summer having played at Blidworth for a number of years having been signed by former manager Anthony Scothern. Crowder was a popular figure amongst both staff and players at Blidworth and is still held in great esteem by his former colleagues. He left Blidworth to play for Parkhouse in order to reduce the amount of travelling he was having to do. One thing is for sure, it will be an interesting battle come the weekend and there have already been a number of phone calls between the former player and his old club containing banter about Saturdays game.

News - 15/12/07

Blidworth Welfare Reserves beat Heanor Town Reserves by two goals to nil this afternoon. Both goals were scored in the first half by Jamie Clayton. New signing central defender kev Price made his debut. This was his first competitive game in 18 months since breaking his ankle. Blidworth's 1st Team game at Newark Flowserve was postponed.

New Signings - 4/12/07

Blidworth Welfare have signed two new players. Striker Shaun Vincent has joined from Bolsover Town and defender Kev Price who played at Forest Town last season has also signed. Shaun has a record of scoring goals and has played for a number of local clubs including Ollerton Town and Forest Town. Kev is a strong experienced defender who has played at Rainworth, Forest Town and at Blidworth during Rudy Funk's time in charge. Both players will bring a wealth of experience to Blidworth which will only benefit the younger players within the squad. These new signings now make it 3 new faces in the space of a fortnight for Dave Hughes's squad.

Latest News - 3/12/07

Dave Hughes has added another signing to his squad with the return of utility player Micky Clarke who can operate anywhere on the park but generally plays as a striker. Clarke has been at Blidworth on a number of occassions but more recently has been playing in the NEC league with Teversal. However, as his appearances were limited the player decided to drop out of Saturday football for a while until being snapped up again by Blidworth. Whilst on loan from Teversal last season Clarke scored a number of important goals and made his first appearance this season in the impressive 2-0 victory over Yorkshire Main last Saturday.

Paul Voller Memorial Game - 28/10/07

Arthur and Penny Voller would like to thank everyone at Blidworth Welfare FC for their support of the Paul Voller Memorial game. Over £5500 was raised and this money will go to Paul's son George.

Paul Voller Match Report

Blidworth Welfare Football Club has raised over £4,000 for the two year old son of one their Sunday side founders. Paul Voller tragically died in May this year after falling through a skylight in Bradford . The 31 year old senior safety engineer was instrumental in the setting up of Larch Farm FC and before his death he was working towards amalgamating the club with Blidworth Welfare FC. Now Larch Farm FC play under the banner of Blidworth Welfare Sunday side and yesterday saw the first annual memorial match for Paul. All proceeds from this special game are being donated to the young son he left behind. George, 2 was originally looking at a windfall of about £500 but after an enormous response the final figure is to be upwards of £4,000. The match was between the Sunday side and the Senior side who play in the Central Midlands Premier Division. Around a hundred people turned out to enjoy the party atmosphere and they weren't disappointed with the game either. The Senior side started the better and duly took the lead after twelve minutes thanks to a good header by Jahmel Russell. But the Senior side couldn't convert any further pressure and the Sunday side who featured Paul's brother David Voller soon came back into it, Jamie Senior hitting the post before half time. The Sunday side began the second half well too and finally grabbed the equaliser through Jamie Senior who smashed high beyond Mark Frost to level the scores. The Central Midlands side then began to turn the screw, but couldn't find a winner before the end of the ninety minutes. The game went straight to a penalty shoot out and it was the Senior side who held their nerve to win the memorial plate. Watched on by Paul's son George and wife Kelly she thanked everyone for their support and said that George will be “eternally grateful” for all that has been done.
