FOOTBALL BOOST FOR BLIDWORTH WELFARE

The Football Stadia Improvement Fund, supporters of the Football Foundation, and the largest funder of non league football in the country, today announced a grant of £13000 to Blidworth Welfare Football Club.

This award will enable the club to replace the existing old wooden fencing surrounding the ground improving safety, appearance and enhancing security.

Over £80m has already been invested by the Football Stadia Improvement Fund since its launch in July 2000, funding lower league ground improvements throughout professional and amateur game, creating a safe and modern environment for fans and players to enjoy the game.

Peter Lee, Chief Executive of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund and Football Foundation, welcomed this latest funding initiative:

“On behalf of the Football Stadia Improvement Fund I am delighted to be able to award this grant to Blidworth Welfare.

A vibrant community team is vital for the future of football. The Football Stadia Improvement Fund’s aim is to revolutionise funding for the grass roots in the same way the professional game has been transformed over the last 10 years. It is vital for the survival of clubs outside the professional game that this investment continues. I pay a particular tribute to the hard work and dedication all at the club for making this funding a reality.”

As Chairman of Blidworth Welfare Football Club I would like to thank the Football Stadia Improvement Fund for this grant towards the replacement of our fencing. This is the first in a number of steps towards improving our facilities, which are in urgent need of replacement and repair as we aim to attract more Community involvement.

PRESS RELEASE - Blidworth Welfare Football Club have parted company with 1st team manager Roy Hogarth. click here for more information

11th April

Blidworth Welfare 0-3 Askern Welfare

Two very hard working teams produced a very competitive and entertaining game. Blidworth controlled the first half and should have gone in winning at half time, but were soon punished after the break with THREE corners which rocked Blidworth and allowed Askern to take control of the game for a 25 min spell. Blidworth came back and made a game of it for the last 15 mins, but the damage had already been done as Askern take away all three points.

8th April

Newark Flowserve 1-0 Blidworth Welfare

Newark Flowserve somehow managed to scrape a 1-0 over strugglers Blidworth Welfare. Blidworth easily deserved a win and missed chance after chance. Another soft goal conceded gifted Newark Flowserve the victory.

Blidworth Reserves 0-3 Santos Reserves

Two own goals, and the third squirming under defender-come-goalie KWright gave Santos the victory and a step closer to the league title. With numerous players missing including a reckognised goalkeeper, Blidworth battled really well and created a few good chances but overall Santos shaded it, though 1-0 would have been a more fair result. Good luck to Santos for the rest of the season and hope you clinch the title.

4th April

Askern Welfare 4-1 Blidworth Welfare

A very entertaining end-to-end game saw both both teams after 3 points for different reasons, but once again the suicide button was pressed as we gave them three goals with poor mistakes. Overall a draw would have been a more fair result as chances either side were even and there was nothing between the teams. Saleem Mozley came off the bench to score a well worked goal.

25th March

Blidworth Welfare 1-2 LSS Lucarlys

L.S.S Lucarlys kept ahead of the chasing pack for third place in the Premier Division thanks to two first half goals from Rickey Forrest and Gary Kilday. Having failed to win in three consecutive games the visitors were desperate for an away win to help kick start their end of season campaign. Sorry Blidworth go on without a win despite a hustle and bustle style performance worthy of a point or three. For Match Review click here

18th March

Blidworth Welfare 0-1 Newark Town

One goal was enough for Newark Town to overcome a strong Blidworth side keeping their slim chances of promotion alive. Newark moved up to seventh with the three points, but in contrast Blidworth are yet to win at home since early November and are living dangerously with Kiveton and Thoresby chasing hard behind in sixteenth and seventeenth place respectively. A Daniel Purves penalty was the only goal that kept Newark’s run of only one loss in seven very much intact. For Match Review click here

Following yesterdays 1-0 defeat at Newark Flowserve Blidworth Welfare Football Club have parted company with First Team Manager Roy Hogarth. The Nottinghamshire club are sliding towards the bottom three in the CML Premier Division having taken only 3 points out of a possible 42 since Xmas.
Hogarth had been at the Club just over 12 months having replaced Anthony Scothern.
Chairman Alan Whitworth said:
For a Club of our size and with the plans we have in place we could no longer accept the way we were performing on the football pitch. Our Committee are putting alot of work in at Blidworth in order to improve the football club. We have one of the best stadiums at this level in the County and a number of improvement projects underway to further improve our ground and attract more youth football and local community involvement. The results and performance of the team since Xmas have not been acceptable and with the way things were going we felt we had to make a decision now rather than leave it until the end of the season.
Dave Hughes assisted by Ritchie Hopkin will run the First Team and Reserves until the end of this season and we will be advertising for a new First Team Manager to be in place for next season.

Alan Whitworth
Chairman
Blidworth Welfare Football Club

INSIDE BLIDWORTH F.C - CHAIRMAN'S INTERVIEW

Date of Birth: 27/08/1957

What progress has been made off the pitch? “Well we have appointed Helen Willford as Vice Chairman, a local person. Peter Tudbury has taken over as Secretary of the club allowing Chris Swain to concentrate on the pitch. We are further looking to strengthen the committee and we are wanting to get involved more with the community. At the moment we are searching for a local Fund Raising Secretary and a Treasurer. We are also hoping to attract more people to come and watch on a match day. We have got a website this season, a new sponsor in O.E Europe. We have got new changing rooms in progress, hopefully being in place by 2007. We have got new fencing at a cost of £16,000 and work will be starting in the next two months.”

Do you think there has been progress on the pitch? “There was progress on the pitch up until Christmas. Since Christmas, we have only got one point. I mean, we lost a couple of good players just after Christmas and I don’t think we have replaced them unfortunately and we are struggling at the moment. We have got the right structure off the pitch, it’s just the structure on the playing side at the moment that is coming into question.”

What are your ambitions and what are the details of the five year plan? This season our aim is tenth but we will struggle to achieve that this season. We are trying to get more involved with the community including getting more people to come and watch. The five year plan means this year we are aiming for top ten. Next year, promotion to the Supreme Division. The season after, is to consolidate in the Supreme, then top ten in that division. Then in the fifth year the aim is to get promoted back to the North East Counties Division One.

FIRST TEAM MANAGER INTERVIEW

Roy Hogarth

Date of Birth: 18/02/1969

Occupation: Driver/Porter Hilton Hotel

Favourite Player in the World now? Cristiano Ronaldo

Boyhood Hero: Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen

Whose in your car stereo? UB40

Over half way through the season now, what marks would you give the side out of ten so far? “Commitment, 10, effort, 10, experience, 4. With results we have been really unlucky but the club is progressing and expectations are rising.”

What are your ambitions for the season? “For me the standards are high and we should be aiming for top ten no matter what. At one point of the season we were 6 points off 7th, that’s my ambition. The team have got to progress, and top ten is what I’ve said all along.”

Would you put the inconsistent season down to a lack of experience? Yes, lack of experience is definitely part of it. We have had a lot of injuries and suspensions this season so far. But the average age of the team is 21. We have got the 5 year plan in place and after fifty or sixty games these players will know how the league works.

11th March

Ollerton Town 3-0 Blidworth Welfare

Ollerton entered the top ten and joined three other clubs on the 44 point mark with the win against Blidworth. The victory was sealed before half time with three strikes in fourteen minutes. Blidworth’s anguish was compounded in the second period with the sending off of debutant Steve Russell for a second bookable offence. For Match Review click here

Blidworth Reserves P-P Santos

The Reserves game was cancelled due to waterlogged pitch.  The game is being re-arranged but no date as been confirmed

4th March

Blidworth Welfare 2-2 Harworth Colliery

Draw specialists Harworth laboured to their eleventh stalemate of the season against fellow strugglers Blidworth, thanks to twice coming from behind. Tony Law put the home side in front on two occasions before the Welfare were pegged back both times by an instant Harworth reply. Blidworth perhaps deserved more from a game they shaded from the outset but the result sums up their season so far, with lapses of concentration and a lack of goals being at the heart of their problems. For Match Review click here

Welbeck Welfare Res 2-3 Blidworth Reserves

Blidworth defeated the in-form Welbeck to inflict only their 2nd home defeat of the season. Ian Moss opened the scoring on 25mins after pouncing on a rebound. Welbeck had a couple of chances to equalise, and then Blidworth missed 4 one-on-ones to increase the lead in the first half.  Second half Welbeck started the 2nd half strongly and equalised on 50mins with a great finish from their striker. on 60mins Ian Moss got his 2nd when he ghosted past several challenges and placed the ball past the keeper. A very dubious penalty against the run of play allowed Welbeck to equalise again. This got Blidworth wound up and we got the winner and Ian Moss claimed his hat-trick with a 25yard free kick. We battled hard and thorough deserve all three points.

26th February

Bilborough Pelican 4-0 Blidworth Welfare

Although Bilborough won the game 4-0 and deserve to win, the wining margin was a little harsh and a closer scoreline would be been fair. Blidworth created some chances and played well, but as expected Bilborough were much more clinical.   For Match Review click here

Blackwell Miners Welfare Res 4-1 Blidworth Reserves

The first half finished 0-0 as both teams cancelled each other out.  Blidworth were quick out the blocks 2nd half and took the lead on 53mins when Dave Donachie setup Tony Law to make it 1-0. Two goals from Blackwell that both looked somewhat offside swung the balance the other way. Blackwell then continued to get two further goals in the last 10 mins to seal the points.

19th February

Blidworth Welfare 1-1 Forest Town

Forest Town snatched a point from Blidworth in the last ten minutes, as it looked like Blidworth were going to take all three points. Jahmel Russell gave Blidworth the lead in the 3rd minute, and we should have extended the lead after missing a host of chances. Forest Town created chances in the 2nd half and although we gifted them a goal, a draw was a fair result.   For Match Review click here

Kimberley Town Reserves 2-4 Blidworth Reserves

Blidworth Reserves arrived at Kimberley Town Reserves expecting an easy three points, but they made us work hard for them and never gave up. David Donachie got his first goal for the club to make it 1-0. Darren Croucher made it 2-1 for his first goal of the season, before David Donachie setup both Steve Lester goals with perfect crosses. Several other chances were missed to increase the score line, but the final result was fair. Good team spirit and hard work as a unit won this, lets keep it up lads.

12th February

Thorne Colliery 4-0 Blidworth Welfare

Blidworth’s slump shows no signs of abating after this four goal drubbing by Thorne at the weekend. It was Thorne’s fourth win in five games, seeing them rise inside the top ten. Blidworth, on the other hand are without a win in six, scoring just one goal in that time.   For Match Review click here

Blidworth Reserves 2-1  Appleby Froddingham Reserves

A great performance by our Ressies gave us all three points against top-of-the-league Appleby Reserves. We had to work hard for 90mins and work as a unit but it was thoroughly deserved after we missed a host of chances to make it comfortable. Sam Briden marked his home debut with the opening goal and Steve Lester made it 2 goals in 2 games from the spot. Well done lads, lets keep this level going.

5th February

Grimsby Borough 5-0 Blidworth Welfare

Because of work commitments, Blidworth were forced into 7 changes for this long trip to Grimsby. Grimsby came straight out of the blocks and won the game within the first 25mins with 3 goals. Grimsby then added a further 2 goals in the last 5 mins to make it 5-0.  For Match Review click here

Bolsover Tn Res 2-1  Blidworth Reserves

High flying Bolsover were lucky to claim any points against a very positive and hard working Blidworth, but poor finishing handed Bolsover all 3 points. SLester gave Blidworth the lead, and that lead should have been extended as we missed 2 one-on-ones and also had 1 cleared off the line. Bolsover equalised on the stroke of half time. 2nd half we came out strong again and missed another couple of opportunities. Bolsover scored against the run of play to make it 2-1. We also missed a penalty and a further 2 great chances but it just wasn't out day.

22nd January

Blidworth Welfare 0-0 Yorkshire Main

Although this game ended stalemate, both teams had good chances to steal all three points.  For Match Preview click here

Bilborough Pelican 'A' 3-0  Blidworth Reserves

This really was a game of two halves, with Bilborough controlling the first half and taking in a 2 goal lead through a DMarshall OG and a deflected shot. 2nd Half it was Blidworth's turn to dominate and created a host of chances but couldn't find the back of the net. A 'strange' direct free kick somehow crept in to give Bilborough a flattering 3-0 win.

15th January

Blidworth Welfare 1-2 Welbeck Welfare

Welbeck came out on top in this hard fought match against Blidworth, only scraping the three points thanks to a stout defensive rearguard action in the closing fifteen minutes. Welbeck went 2-0 up in the early stages after being gifted two goals. JGreaves gave Blidworth a lifeline in the 73rd min.  For Match Preview click here

Ollerton Tn Reserves 2-1 Blidworth Reserves

Ollerton Town Reserves won an end-to-end game 2-1, but Blidworth will feel hard done by and deserved at least a point. Ollerton took a deserved lead in the 15th minute after missing a few chances already. ABamford equalised on 30mins when he pounced on a rebound. The winner came in the 70th minute just after Blidworth had spurned two good chances to take the lead.

27th November

Kiverton Park 4-0 Blidworth Welfare

Blidworth Welfare were outplayed and outgunned by Kiveton Park in a two o’clock kick off at Hard Lane. Kiveton inflicted Blidworth’s biggest defeat of the season, and could signal a ring of changes for Blidworth’s trip to Askern next weekend. The manner of the defeat left Blidworth manager Roy Hogarth unable to defend his players who had previously won three games on the spin.  For Match Preview click here

Blidworth Reserves 3-2 Newark Town Reserves

15th August

Blidworth Welfare 0-3 Grimsby Borough

Blidworth came up against a strong Grimsby Borough side that were carrying no hangovers for their failed promotion attempt due to ground grading last season.  Blidworth nearly opened the scoring after five minutes as the ball fell to Dave Wilkes inside the penalty area but his goal bound shot was headed off the line by Toyne.  for match report click here

8th August

Southwell Res 4-3 Blidworth Res   (HT 3-0)

After a very poor first half and going in at half-time 3-0 down, we came out 2nd half with better shape and spirit to make it 4-3 with 10 mins left.  We missed a further two very good chances to even up the game.

Four of our U17's team played for the reserves and all played well.

Southwell City 4-1 Blidworth Welfare  (HT 2-1)

This is what you call a game of two halfs.  First half had 3 goals and two hard working teams playing good football.  Second half had 3 red cards and many 'over the top' tackles which ruined what should have been a very good game and test for the improving Blidworth. for match report click here

CML League Meeting on 3rd August

At Tuesday nights CML League Meeting, Blidworth Welfare were drawn away to Premier League Champions AFC Barnsley in the 1st round of the Floodlit Cup.  The last time these two sides met it ended with a resounding  8-0 victory to Barnsley.  This will be a midweek game although the actual date has to be confirmed.  The Reserves have been drawn away to Graham Street Prims in the Reserves League Cup.  Date to be confirmed.

Each Club in the CML received two new matchballs from the League's Vice Chairman Eddie Pearce.

League Officials will receive a fixed fee when they officiate in the CML this season.  Referees for Premier League games will receive a one off payment of £28 with each linesman receiving £20 each.  So a Premier League Club will pay £68 per home league game for three officials.  Referees in the Reserve Divisions will receive £25 only per game.  This will make it easier for the clubs to budget at the start of the season for Match Officials.

2nd August

Edward Tristam has unfortunately had to resign from his position as Commercial Manager.  Edward has recently been appointed to a new position at his Company Stone Construction which means he cannot commit the time required to do the job of Commercial Manager.  I am pleased to report that Edward will not be leaving the Football Club as he will assist when and where time allows.  Needless to say we are now looking to recruit a new Commercial Manager.  Anyone interested in this position can contact Chairman Alan Whitworth on 07793750946.  We are still looking to recruit a Press Officer for the start of the season.  Again please contact Alan Whitworth if you are interested.

The Club will be holding a penalty shootout out competition during the half-time interval at the home game against Grimsby Borough on Saturday 13th August 2005. KO 3pm.  This competition is open to children aged 16 and under who must be accompanied by an adult on the day if they wish to enter.  There will be a prize of five pounds to the winner of the competition.  Also during the game we will be announcing the winner at half time of our one gallon bottle of whiskey.  More raffle tickets will be sold on the day before the draw is made so please come along and buy some tickets if you fancy your chances.
